Plywood

I (B) grade: The ideal surface for transparent or translucent finish.

II (BB) grade: Minor defects, several healthy light knots per square meter. Slight discoloration.

III (Cp) grade: For products under the opaque finish, paint, veneer facing. Acceptable presence of wood inserts, healthy discoloration up to 50%, small gaps between the veneer layers.

IV (C) grade: The most reasonable price, knots allowed without the limit size and number, inserts and other visual defects. Used in construction, manufacturing formwork boxes, in situations where appearance of plywood is of no importance. Allowable are accrete knots, knotholes, cracks, defects of plywood edges.

Latvian plywood: the time proven quality.

Plywood is a familiar-to-many material used in a variety of industries and services. Products made of plywood can be found in the aviation industry; they are used in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, in the furniture industry and in construction as a finishing formwork material.

Plywood is a combination of birch veneer and glue.

Multi-layer wood veneer sheets are joined using special glues. To prevent delaminating and add impart strength the adjacent layers of veneer fibers are placed strictly at right angles to each other. Usually veneer has an odd number of layers so that the direction of the fibers of the upper or facing layers is the same.

To make wooden board of various properties, it is glued by different varieties of adhesives and the special impregnation is used when necessary. The main types of adhesives for plywood are the urea-formaldehyde resin and the phenol-formaldehyde resin. Plywood sheets made from conifers are resistant to fungus and rot, while sheets made from hardwood, usually birch veneer, have high hardness and mechanical strength.

Where the highest strength material is required, it makes sense to choose the birch plywood (you can find out which wood the plywood is made from in the store or just by taking a look at a characteristic pattern of the sawed cut). There are two types of construction plywood: the water-resistant type and the highly water-resistant type. Both types of plywood are produced in the form of multi-layer sheets of various thickness and size; the standard plywood thickness ranges from 3 to 40 mm, and it is selected depending on usage.

For transporting, wooden board, as well as OSB board sheets are held together in packages and transported horizontally to avoid damaging the sheets (with all its positive qualities, plywood is not very strong with respect to the longitudinal bending).

Furniture plywood: a sound alternative to natural wood.

The very name of this type of plywood suggests the scope of its main application, which is the furniture industry. It is a perfect alternative to natural wood, because its cost is significantly lower and, while at low weight, it ensures excellent durability of furniture. External sheets of furniture plywood are made of valuable wood species with beautiful texture or coated with a variety of decorative films.

Decorative interior plywood.

Those are common multi-layer glued sheets which one or two top layers are the veneer made from fine wood with a beautiful texture or decorative films and paper. In the furniture manufacturing or for interior decoration different types of decorative wooden board are used. The decorative plywood coating can be either matte or transparent so that the pattern of wood can be seen.

Plywood is a practical and familiar material.

The high quality wooden multi-layer sheets are produced in Latvia using the up to date technology. Traditionally, due to the proximity to the sea Latvian multi-layer marine plywood have been designed for use in shipbuilding, so they have high resistance to water. The most common type of plywood is the high-strength birch plywood, which has an optimal weight for its physical and mechanical properties and a great price to quality ratio.
